I feel weightless as I sway in the soft blue hammock. The breeze is gentle but still noticeable making my toes a bit chilly. The air is cold enough to make my nose numb. Taking in a nice big deep breath I feel the coldness on my cheeks. Strong, old oak trees tower above me, their leaves fiery red, orange and gold in colour, patiently waiting for the next big wind storm. The sun shines down casting its rays, hugging me with their warmth and revealing galleries of spiders work in the trees from the night before. I smell a slight tinge of smoke in the air given from the freshly lit fire. I can hear quiet chattering as small groups of people wander past on their morning walk. A dog barks creating a chain reaction. Then silence.
The brightening azure sky gives me a calming vibe. Tui and waxeyes swoop in to find their morning feed and they sit on the black stained fence, singing to their friends. I hear the first vroom of a car from far away signalling to me the start of morning traffic. I watch sparkling dewdrops fall off the sunlit green grass. The wind picks up, sending masses of leaves down to blanket the ground. As the world wakes up more people are walking and biking past. I feel calm and peaceful. With no one to talk to I lie there daydreaming, missing my friends. I can smell sizzling bacon from the next door neighbours breakfast making my tummy grumble.
I enjoy the quiet serenity as I watch the clouds leisurely drifting across the sky. I close my eyes trying to absorb the luscious stillness. I hear thundering footsteps from upstairs telling me my younger brother has woken and that the calmness is about to be interrupted.
