I love you

Libby Hayvice

Her eyes were clouded. Emotions that should’ve been clearly visible, there for me to read like a book, were locked away in the safe known as her mind. I hoped mine were too. Because in that spa, neon lights red, water dripping off her, my self control was slipping. Those stupid feelings that I kept buried under six feet of fear were clawing their way to the surface. Those stupid, stupid wishes and dreams and hopes were trying to breach the walls of their mental prison and come out of my mouth. I love you. Like when she’d glide through the water, place her hands on either side of my legs and bring herself face to face with me. God those three words would choke me, bubbling acid burning my mouth, making me restless to spit it out. I love you. I would have to force myself to laugh and call her silly just so she’d move her stupid amazingly tanned skin and stupid perfect blonde hair away. I didn’t know what I would’ve done if she stayed there.

“You seem nervous.” She said, those sky coloured eyes fixed on me like a predator watching prey.

“I’m just hot, maybe we should turn the spa down.” I replied. Was that convincing enough? Probably not.

Turning, I pressed the down arrow on the spa console, but a presence at my back made me stop.

“I don’t think that’s it.” Was whispered in my ear. I fought, battled the urge to shiver as her breath ran down my ear and neck.

“I think you're nervous because of me. Because of me touching you. Because of me looking at you."

As she said that fingers trailed along my jaw and pulled it lightly, turning my face towards her. I gulped.

“I also think that you have something you want to tell me.” I love you.

Her eyes weren’t cloudy anymore. Longing, clear as day, was written across them like lines of poetry, and I was a man who’d just learned how to read.

So instead of letting those stupid words tell her what she wanted to hear, I pressed my lips against hers, and hoped that was enough.

I love you.
